Games StarCraft Blizzard Entertainment's use of three different races in StarCraft is widely credited with revolutionizing the strategy genre. All units are unique to their respective race and while rough comparisons can be drawn between types of units in a particular technology tree, each unit performs differently and requires different tactics for a player to succeed.

The mysterious Protoss have access to powerful units and machinery and advanced technologies such as energy shields and warp local capabilities, supported by their psionic traits.

However, their forces have a long and expensive manufacturing processes, encouraging players to follow their strategy unit quality over quantity.

Based on the Zerg have entirely organic units and structures, which can be produced quickly and at a cost that is far less expensive to appropriate resources, but weaker, relying on sheer numbers and the speed control of the enemy.

Tthe Terrans provide a middle way between the other two races, providing a versatile and flexible units. They have access to a variety of machines, and other ballistic military technology such as tanks and nuclear.

Although every race is unique in its composition, race does not have a built-in advantage over the other. Each species are balanced out so that while they have different strengths, strengths, and abilities and their overall strength is the same.

Players assume the roles of three unnamed character during the game.
